Mind Your Brain Health – presented by the Dementia Society of Ottawa and AIM Fitness

Join this healthy aging webinar with Meg Stickl-Kroeker of AIM Fitness, and Germán Chique-Alfonzo, speaker for the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County for an overview of the brain, again, MCI and dementia.

Germán will also share tips on healthy lifestyle choices that can help in preventing and delaying some forms of dementia. The session goals are:

  • Learn the lifestyle factors that help prevent dementia
  • Set a brain healthy plan that helps prevent dementia
  • Understand the differences between normal aging, MCI and Dementia.
  • Obtain Information about DSORC services, website and what to do after a diagnosis.

German Chique-Alfonzo, BSc, M.D. MHPE Candidate

  • He is currently the Education Coordinator for the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. His role is to plan and deliver educational sessions for persons living with dementia, caregivers, healthcare professionals and the community about Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia in Canada’s Capital. In addition, he frequently serves as a peer-to-peer liaison with neurologists, neuropsychologists and dementia researchers mainly from Ottawa hospitals, research institutes and across Canada.
  • Germán finished his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa and has a M.D. degree from the Oriente University, Venezuela. After his residency in Neurology at the Central University of Venezuela, he completed a  fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis at La Trinidad Teaching Medical Centre, Venezuela. He has presented at the Venezuelan Neurology Society, the ECTRIMS Congress, the Alzheimer Disease International (ADI) Global Conference and just recently, he became a member of the American Academy of Neurology.
  • His passion for Neurology and Continuing Medical Education has led him to a Master in Health Professions Education at Queen’s University, where he is at the end of his program. Through his education, experience and research, German has gained knowledge and has hosted events on topics related to dementia and its progression, dementia prevention, brain health and has helped caregivers by providing practical tips.

The content will be presented in English, however bilingual participation is encouraged. La présentation se fera en anglais, mais la participation dans les deux langues officielles est encouragée.
