Subjective Cognitive Decline, Multitasking, and Brain Activity: What have we learned? - with Talia Salzman and Sarah Fraser of uOttawa

Many older adults perceive changes in their cognitive abilities (i.e., memory, thinking, etc.) without any noticeable changes on standard tests or in their everyday activities. This is called subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Some people who report SCD may be at risk of future cognitive impairments, while others may not. With the help of participants from NAFR, our presenters Talia Salzman, PhD Candidate and Sarah Fraser, PhD, were able to use brain activity to see if there were differences in ‘mental effort’ between older adults with and without SCD who completed two multitasking situations (walking and talking or typing and talking).

They hope that examining differences in brain activity and multitasking performance will help identify individuals who are at a greater risk of cognitive impairment, to help offer early intervention options to maintain brain health.

The content will be presented in English, however bilingual participation is encouraged. La présentation se fera en anglais, mais la participation dans les deux langues officielles est encouragée.
