Neighbours Helping Neighbours - Providing respite support to caregivers

Are you providing care to a family member, friend, or neighbour who is aging or has a long-term health condition?

Do you know someone who provides informal and unpaid care to a family member, friend, or neighbour?

Do you know what caregiver burnout is?

Have you heard about caregiver respite support?

Join us to learn about some simple ways to offer respite support and give a caregiver a temporary break.

“Neighbours Helping Neighbours” was developed by the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in response to a need for more respite care which could be provided at no cost to the recipient. It is not meant to replace or compete with formal and funded respite programs offered through health service agencies.

The 3-hour interactive workshop is aimed at providing a small group of participants with basic information so that they will be comfortable volunteering to offer respite care to caregivers. Topics include family dynamics, communication, what is respite support, caregiver fatigue, elder abuse, normal and abnormal aging, and what the respite caregiver needs to know.

The workshop will be held on December 3, 2026 from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The venue will be announced in the near future. Light refreshments will be provided. There is no cost to attend but registration is required.

The content will be presented in English, however bilingual participation is encouraged. La présentation se fera en anglais, mais la participation dans les deux langues officielles est encouragée.
